Google rolls out Personal Intelligence to free Gemini & AI Mode Users

After first launching Personal Intelligence for paid users earlier this year, Google is now expanding the feature to more people in the U.S. The company says it is available now for free-tier users in AI Mode in Search, while the rollout is also starting for free users in the Gemini app and in Chrome.
Personal Intelligence lets Gemini and AI Mode use connected Google apps and services to make answers more relevant to you. Google says this includes services like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, Search, Maps, Shopping, News, Flights, and Hotels, while Gemini’s help docs also reference broader Connected Apps support.

That means you do not have to put as much background into the prompt yourself. Google says Personal Intelligence can help with things like troubleshooting a device you bought without remembering the exact model, suggesting airport food based on your tastes and your gate timing, building a trip around places you are more likely to enjoy, or recommending a hobby based on patterns in what you already like.

The rollout is still limited. This is for personal Google accounts in the U.S., not business, education, or supervised accounts. The support pages also say Gemini users need to be 18 or older, have Keep Activity turned on, and use English, while Search-side personalization also depends on Web & App Activity and Search personalization settings.

Google says this is an opt-in. You choose which apps are connected, and you can turn those connections off later. The company says Gemini and AI Mode do not directly train on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Gemini’s help docs also say data derived from connected apps, including summaries and inferences, can be used to improve Google services when the relevant activity settings are enabled.
The main change now is availability. What started as a paid feature is moving to a much wider audience, with AI Mode getting it first and now across Gemini.
