Firefox Adds an AI Window, as an Optional Feature

Another Day, Another AI Browser. Mozilla has come up with a new idea: an AI Window that you can open whenever you need help and close when you don't. It won't change your whole browser into an AI; it’s just a useful window next to the Classic and Private modes. This was announced on November 13, 2025.
Firefox is stepping into a busy market. This announcement follows closely after OpenAI launched its ChatGPT Atlas on October 21, 2025, and Perplexity made its Comet tool free on October 2, 2025, after a limited release on July 9, 2025.
Mozilla says in Firefox, you’re in control. AI won’t be required, but it’ll be available if you want to use it! The AI Window is here to serve you, not take control of your browsing. Think of it as a “trusted sidekick” that helps you navigate the web without getting in your way.
Think of the AI as a bonus feature. All the distractions free your browsing with no disturbances. And when you do need help, say, getting a page, writing a sentence, or finding a link, you can pop open AI Window with minimal effort, get the help you were looking for and then close it. You choose when you’re using AI so there are no surprises. It provides the sweet spot between having “AI everywhere” and “no AI at all.”
It’s still early in the process. Mozilla is “building in the open” and invites people to sign up to be among the first to try it out and share their thoughts. In a Forum Post, Mozilla mentioned that users will be able to choose the AI model they want to use in the AI Window and provided some extra details.
If the team sticks to allowing model choices, keeping options on your device when possible, and providing clear ways to opt-out of logins and payments, the AI Window could be a safe way to explore helpful AI without giving it access to everything you do. Plus, it fits perfectly with what’s happening now: Atlas, Comet, and Firefox are all working to make your browsing experience even better.
