Facebook Marketplace adds Meta AI auto-replies for repetitive buyer messages

Anyone who has tried to sell something on Facebook Marketplace knows the friction starts before the sale. It starts in the awkward little rituals around it. You take the photos. You stare at the blank listing box. You guess at a price. Then half of them ask the same thing again.

Meta’s latest Marketplace update is aimed at that exact grind. The company is rolling out seller tools powered by Meta AI that can draft listings, suggest prices, write first replies to buyers, and make shipping less of a chore.

Out of all, the listing tool sounds like the most interesting one. Sellers can upload a photo and let Meta AI build a draft, fill in details, and suggest a price based on similar items nearby. That may sound like a small convenience, but it goes after a real habit of abandonment. Plenty of things never make it onto the Marketplace because listing them feels like more work than the item is worth.

Meta is also going after the message loop that makes Marketplace feel more draining than it needs to. When a buyer asks whether something is still available, Meta AI can draft a reply using details already in the listing, including price, pickup location, and availability. Sellers can preview and edit the message before sending it, but the point is clear.

That does help a bit, as it cuts down the number of times you enter the same info.

The update also says buyers will now see a summary at the top of a seller’s Marketplace profile with details such as how long that person has been on Facebook, how many friends they have, the kinds of items they usually list, and their seller ratings. Sellers can also offer shipping, create prepaid labels, and track orders from a dashboard, giving them a cleaner way to sell beyond local pickup.

Actually Meta had already been testing AI tools for buyers. Now it is putting that effort on the seller side, where the work is duller and more repetitive. This might make it feel less tiring now.
